so it is not my mind making adjustments, but it is *me* physically making them. Other people tell me that i make 'funny faces' when i look in the mirror. While that does make sense, I think there's more to uncover there, considering the next chapter of Quintessence starts off waking up from a dream, the lost chapter.I thnk there is another explanation: the person looking in the mirror is physically contorting their face to adjust and look better. Considering this was early in Kan's career I'd assume that he was just going to put the password from DRYML in TML, but he decided to release the lost chapter as a Christmas special instead, and just left them in the files for no specific reason. There's not any specific direction the story goes in either, each main theory is so far off from other ones that it makes sense for there to be fake story elements.įinally, I mined the game's data for any unused or secret sprites and textures and came across some files from the lost chapter, like a few title screens and a couple spritesheets, but not all of the files. This would make a lot of sense, considering there's so many theories that contradict eachother. Second of all, a theory was brought up guessing that everything is just a red herring, and that there aren't actually any story elements in the game. A lot of elements of the game are surreal elements, not abstract representations of normal things. My guess is that this is a surreal dream in a series of dreams (TML, DRYML, Lost Chapter) taking place inside Quintessence.įirst of all, Kan was actually inspired to make TML by a surreal-esque movie that was about a family eating thier kids for Christmas dinner (I don't remember the name sorry), basically proving the game has surreal elements to it. Yeah this is a little bit different from anything here, but I was in a vc with a few people who knew Kan and worked on some games with him, and we started talking about TML and I ended up with a theory loosely based on it so might as well consider some of the conversation as gospel and talk about it here.
